Help for Kids Starts with Parents

There are three ways we help parents:

All major medical associations recommend that parents learn how to more effectively support complex kids (children, teens, and young adults) in learning how to understand and manage their challenges with life and learning. Parent management training is a first-line recommended treatment for complex kids. When combined with medication, parent training actually improves the effectiveness of medication; for families that prefer not to (or can't) use medication, parent training is critical to improve outcomes for the whole family.

At ImpactParents, we've learned from working with tens of thousands of parents over more than a decade that gathering information is a good start, but it's not enough. Learning about how to use that information is essential. Parents need training that allows space for them to get feedback and practice. Even better, when training is reinforced by a combination of coaching and support, parents can most effectively set up their kids (and teens and young adults) for longterm success.

With practical guidance, parents can fully understand their kids' struggles, see difficult behaviors in the context of a child's 'brain wiring,' and learn to create an accommodated environment that fosters longterm independence. Our programs at ImpactParents, which combine training with coaching and support, have been proven to help parents improve their confidence, reduce their stress, and improve outcomes for their kids!

Parent Training Provides Essential Information & Tools for Behavior Management

ImpactParents: Parent Computer Training

When you get the strategies you need, and learn how to use a coach-approach when raising or teaching children, teens, and young adults with complex challenges, it:

  • improves communication patterns
  • helps to heal strained relationships
  • teaches you how to foster independence

Sanity School®

Nearly 100% of our members start with Sanity School®.

Sanity School has proven again and again to be effective for families struggling with all types of complex issues.

In our initial research*, with more than 50 families, the evidence was clear. Parents reported that they felt more confident and less stressed -- and saw improvements in their child's behaviors in just 6 weeks.

Since then, thousands of families have used these skills to create a more peaceful home. In fact, we offer a 100% money-back guarantee because we believe so strongly that every family with complex kids -- those who struggle with some aspects of life, learning or behavior -- will benefit from taking this training.

How does it work?

Behavior therapy – also known as "behavior training," "parent management training," or "parent training" – is a first-line recommended treatment for children, teens and even young adults with ADHD and related challenges of Executive Function.

{Behavior} Training focuses on ADULTS -- typically parents or teachers. Teaching you how to navigate difficult behaviors when children are struggling, you learn to guide complex kids to develop the skills they need to self-manage and become independent.

Our parent training program (Sanity School®) was created for parents and teachers of kids with ALL kinds of complex issues – ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Anxiety, Depression, Autism, Tourette's, and more. Research shows that it:

  • improves outcomes for kids
  • reduces parent and family stress
  • enhances parent confidence
  • delays the use of medication for younger children and reduces the amount needed

"I would definitely recommend the Sanity School® program for parents and teachers. It's very well organized, easily accessible and parent/teacher friendly. It is my new 'go to' for accurate and concise information to help explain the complex intricacies of Executive Function and ADHD to overwhelmed parents and teachers who have lost hope."

Group Coaching for Parents Provides Support, Structure & Accountability

How Do You Decide Where to Focus as a Parent?

Just trying to figure out where to start can be overwhelming, isolating, and frustrating. There are so many different options to help your kids and so many challenges you need to address. Should you focus on schoolwork? Respect at home? If you have to choose something, where do you start?

The best place to start is ... with you.

Parent Coaching (either in a small group or individually) can guide you through the complex maze of decision-making. Parents often spend so much energy on their kids that they forget about themselves. But when stretched too thin, kids tend to feel our anxiety and get the brunt of our stress.

By pausing and paying attention to yourself and your parenting approach, coaching can guide you to become the best parent you can be -- for all your kids, complex or not.

Coaching (and the training that comes with it) is a powerfully effective way to create lasting change.

Coaching gives you the tools you need to build on the training and information you have so that you can manage challenges facing your complex kids and help them thrive. It provides a structure to focus on the changes you want to make -- with support and guidance. It reminds you that you're not alone, allowing you to keep calm in the midst of challenging situations!

Group Coaching with ImpactParents

Since October 2011, our unique virtual group coaching program has supported thousands of parents with kids of all ages, from 4 to 40. There is something magic that happens in these groups, which are available for parents in 4 different categories: parents of younger kids, older kids/teens, young adults, and all ages.

Parents connect with other parents of similar-aged kids, in a small group with a certified coach. There, they get support to tackle their family's challenging issues, one by one. They celebrate successes and learn from other parents' experiences. As parents address their individual challenges, they learn from their peers, make progress on their own issues, and the impact is nothing short of transformational! When you succeed and get the guidance you need -- your kids succeed, too!

"I have found your support and coaching to be the best intervention we have had! I have made so much progress that my son's guidance counselor has said that to me the last 2 times we talked!"
~ Amy S, NJ

Private Coaching

ImpactParents: Private Coaching

Sometimes you're not comfortable sharing your family's issues in a group environment, and we don't want that to hold you back from feeling peace in your home. For challenges that feel too private or complex for other programs -- or for parents who want personal support so they can work privately with a coach on their schedule -- we offer private coaching for our Impact family. A coach will help you get clear on your priorities, create plans for your family, take aim on your most pressing issues, and take action to create change.

Private, comprehensive coaching is available for parents and adults, individuals or couples. For parents who may struggle with similar challenges to your children, we have coaches on the team to help you address your own neurodiverse challenges, as well. Coaching tackles key issues challenging you and your family, and then develops solutions personalized to your circumstances. Work personally with your coach – on video -- to get the most individualized support and accountability you need.

"I cannot express my gratitude for your amazing coaching and parenting courses. I have learnt and practiced skills with you. You have championed, guided and patiently taught me, helping me not to give up, consoling me in tough times, celebrating the wins, AND pointing out when I am winning!  You are utterly awesome at shining the light for parents when they feel that all around them is darkness and fear.”

"This book is a game changer! Who knew I was unintentionally contributing to the problem. After I began implementing what I'll just call "the curious approach," almost immediately I got the sense that my son felt we were teammates striving for the same goals. My new perspective and acceptance stripped away his defensiveness and defiance. Small changes in me are making a world of a difference for my son. I'm so grateful I found this book." ~ Natalie Z, NYC

* ImpactParents conducted an independent research study in collaboration with Mindprint Learning in 2015. Since research on the efficacy of coaching and parent training is conclusive, this research focused on collecting evidence to 1) assure the efficacy of the coach-approach as a methodology for effective behavior management, and 2) improve parent engagement and adherence. A research poster was presented at the International Conference on ADHD in November, 2016.
