Lynne Hughes
Lynne Hughes lost both her parents by the age of 12. She recognized the lack of resources available to her as a grieving child, and into adult life realized child bereavement resources were still nonexistent. So, she took her love for summer camp and founded Comfort Zone Camp, the first-ever national 501(c)3 bereavement camp for grieving children and families. Since its inception in 1998, CZC has helped over 24,000 grieving children.
Hughes is also honored as one of Redbook’s Mothers and Shakers 2002–awarded to 12 women (including Laura Bush) who have helped to improve the quality of life in the U.S. She is a 2019 honoree of the Richmond Times Dispatch Person of Year, a 2019 Hometown Hero for Allen & Allen and 2006 YWCA Outstanding Women of the Year.
